FBI seeking California man in federal investigation for possession of explosive materials

The FBI is searching for a San Francisco resident who is being sought in a federal investigation for possession of explosive materials, a spokesman says.

FBI agent Peter Lee told KTVU Sunday that Ryan Kelly Chamberlain, 42, was the focus of a FBI operation a day earlier that closed off the block around his apartment.

Lee said earlier reports that Chamberlain may have had the poison ricin inside his apartment were not true. He added that there was no danger of chemical or biological agents in the materials that were found at Chamberlain’s residence.

Authorities describe Chamberlain as being 6 feet 3 inches tall with blue eyes and brown hair. Lee said he was last seen south of San Francisco wearing a navy blue hooded sweatshirt and jeans, and driving a white 2008 Nissan Altima with possible California or Texas license plates, KTVU reports.

Lee said Chamberlain should be approached with caution if he is spotted.

“Anyone who possesses explosives should be considered armed and dangerous,” he said. “He has not made any threats that I know of… there is no threat to public safety at this time that we know of.”
